Would you tell anyone that you are struggling?
Over the last 10-15 years we are bombarded on all media about Mental health campaigns and organisations. Wanting to mark a milestone or celebrate a birthday we might raise money for a charity close to our heart. We know a lot about mental ill health but, would we find it easy to reach out?
Unfortunately there's still a shame attached to talking aloud about going for help or therapy. That's been my experience as a therapist over the last 19 years.
Goal
The goal of Sligo Community Counselling is to provide access to therapy supports not just to people looking for help but to the therapists, G.P.s, Schools, Community groups etc. that looks to share and collaborate.
Frustrated G.P.’s, Schools, Community groups and Parents seek help daily from the various service providers. It's no secret that they are stretched and we have to endure waiting lists.
Sligo Community Counselling is a service that strives to have a 'no wait' policy and delivers a quality service that isn't there to compete against other services or therapists.
Allen Gilhooly is the Clinic Director of the service and has been a Therapist, Teacher, Community Youth worker over the last 35 years. Patricia Hannan is a Therapist/Supervisor with over 30 years experience as a therapist in private practice and lead therapist in the HSE bereavement service in Sligo.
Approach
Our Approach is simple. Therapy should feel like a conversation which has a therapeutic outcome. That's it! Our service will do it's best to be personable and kind. We may have resources or techniques that may help you but our biggest resource that we can offer you is our ears. We believe that you have the ability to find your own answers through what ever you're finding difficult.
